How Does StartApp Work with COPPA Compliant Apps?
When you develop and sell children’s apps, it’s natural to worry about parents. They are also worried about protecting their children’s privacy. So are we. When working with services like StartApp, it’s important to understand the nuances of laws like COPPA to ensure that you and your users are protected. Let’s talk more about COPPA and what StartApp does to ensure COPPA compliance.
What is COPPA?
COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) is a US Federal law that addresses the issue of online collection of the personal data from children under 13 years of age. It applies to websites, apps, and services directed to children under the age of 13 or with users known to be under the age of 13. Personal information includes things like first and last name, home address, telephone number, and more.
How does StartApp address COPPA compliance?
As a mobile advertising platform, StartApp serves targeted advertising to mobile end users.
To adhere to COPPA requirements, StartApp has implemented a process to exclude any app identified a COPPA app by our system from targeted advertising based on user data.
If you integrated our SDK into an app used by children under the age of 13, you must notify us in order to stay compliant with COPPA. On the StartApp dashboard, there is a COPPA section where you can flag any of your apps that need to be in COPPA compliance.
