Preparing Your App for the Holidays

Preparing Your App for the Holidays

It’s time for app developers prepare their apps for the holiday season!

The holidays are the biggest time of the year for mobile apps. This year, Apple reported that consumers spent over $890 million on the App Store between Christmas Eve and New Year’s (a 30% increase over the 2016-2017 holiday season).

Not only do consumers spend more during the holidays in mobile apps, but advertisers are also spending more on in-app advertising to capture consumer attention. More premium campaigns mean more revenue for app developers.

Making sure your app is ready

There are a few things that developers can do ahead of time to optimize your apps before the big holiday season to make sure you maximize your revenue.

Tackle Big App Issues Now

Have a big bug that you haven’t got around to fixing yet? Have some ideas for optimizing your registration process?

Now is the time to check off the big projects on your to-do list. Your app should be as great as possible going into the holiday season so that new users aren’t discouraged when trying to use your app.  Work out any major bugs and optimize your onboarding process to make it easier for new users to sign up for your app and quickly learn how to use it.

Consider User Acquisition

During the holiday season, you are going to want to increase any current user acquisition spending and offer highly engaged use’s great discounts and bonuses on in-app items.

If you aren’t already doing user acquisition, get started with user acquisition using StartApp’s self-service dashboard! With a minimum deposit of only $50, you can get started with user acquisition campaigns even on a tight budget. Just upload your creatives and set your targeting to the consumers you want to reach!

Holiday Branding

While it may sound cheesy, adding holiday images and themes to your app can make it more attractive to users. It gives a fresh look going into the season.

It could be as simple as adding a snowman to your app icon or advertising creative, but it will be worth it in the long run.

iOS Developers: Be Aware of the iTunes Connect Freeze

Every year, Apple shuts down iTunes Connect for all content for about a week during the holiday season.

This means that if you submit any new apps or app updates around this time, they will not get reviewed and approved until the end of the freeze. All other iTunes connect services are available.

Due to varying iOS review times, developers should consider submitting new apps and updates during the first week of December. This ensures it will be live for the holiday bump.
